Be Amorgos is founded on the extensive international expertise of Gerard Doolin.
Gerard Doolin
Working internationally including for 2 global IT consultancy groups and also representing other global and SME providers, users, investors and early-stage companies in the ANZ, Asia-Pacific, North American, UK and European markets, he has engaged in and supported technology consulting, development, and implementation and outsourced services engagements. He has participated in and experienced the endless evolution of cloud software and services models.
This constant exposure to international business negotiation and culture has given him deep expertise and knowledge about:
Effective and prompt engagement in organizational culture, people, and the challenges and the use and delivery of technology solutions.
The provision of a focused approach to gain ‘buy-in’ to collaborative contractual solutions aligning technical delivery context with commercial, financial and legal risks.
The subtle management of relationships, negotiating desired contractual outcomes and building in conflict mitigation processes and resolving conflict
His career has seen him:
- Lead for 5 years customized vendor software solutions and telecommunication services negotiations for MN outsourcer EDS Australia in Sydney
- Be a member of the Accenture Legal group for 5 years – first at Accenture Australia (Sydney) and then 4 years as Deputy UK Counsel for subsidiary Avanade UK (London)
- Establish over a 3-year period a 2-man specialist technology solutions and services providers legal practice group at Bird & Bird LLP (formerly Truman Hoyle Partners) in Sydney
- As acting Legal lead for a specialist international management consultancy firm, Baringa Partners LLP (London),focused on technology systems implementation in the FS and Energy sectors
His qualifications include:
- Mediator: CEDR mediator accreditation (London), Associate member of AMINZ, Software projects disputes – NZIAC Panel Member.
- Admitted solicitor: Barristers and Solicitors rolls of the High Court of New Zealand and Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia
- Masters in International law (with thesis in international trade law) (Honors). University of Auckland Law School 1992-1994.
Why Be Amorgos?
Amorgos is a truly beautiful, isolated, tiny Greek island in the south-eastern Cyclades in the Mediterranean. It featured in the movie Le Grand Bleu (The Big Blue) in the late 1980s.
The image here is of the ocean facing monastery of Hozoviotissa featured in the movie. Having seen the movie while living in London in 1989 within weeks Gerard travelled to Amorgos. He arrived late at night on a ferry to a full moon sitting over the island, the windmills, the small town and the ocean surrounds in view. At this moment one could only arrive and be reconciled to this state of being.
His offering is a visual metaphor for the journey of collaborative negotiation, and, ideally, alignment to the outcome reached.
