Large ERP transformation project for one of New Zealand’s largest government agencies (our client the ERP solution purchaser)

Challenge
A very complex large project involving transformation and replacement of existing software systems and business processes via a series of modules implementation. It became bogged down in solution design and fit problems on a reoccurring basis despite being procured as a mature offering.
Intervention
3 times over an 18-month period remediation services were provided where contract performance standards where non-compliant and there were emerging contract breaches.
Solution
Commencing with the first intervention, we created a safe process to openly discuss and explore core causes of misalignment and failure centered around solution fit (across modular phases), resourcing quality, schedule delivery and confidence to continue. From this hybrid mediation/facilitation an agreed negotiation framework was prepared and then progressed over months resulting in budget reset (including concessional investment) and renegotiated technical contract terms– a process driven by our “review, resolve and reset” mantra. We also revised the contracted project governance process to add a safe space mutual review and negotiation with aid of an external neutral –(see Insights and the Contract Modules). In two further interventions we again assisted with review and renegotiation support using similar engagement methods.
What Experts Say
“The Contract Modules set out pathways of active risk notification, exhausting negotiation dialogue, recourse to support for an industry skilled mediator or for a deep technical matter a ruling from an adjudicator, assisting parties in solving problems and thus avoiding project cessation and relationship ending litigation.I support this initiative and the use of these Contract Modules by industry.”
